The earliest comprehensive American texts on orthodontics, predating Edward H. Angleís works. It covers the aetiology, diagnosis, and mechanical treatment of dental malocclusions and tooth irregularities. At the time, orthodontia was still in its formative years as a recognised dental speciality, and Guilford's book served as a practical manual for dentists dealing with crooked teeth.
