Roy. 4to., First Edition, with 9 etched plates containing 38 illustrations, some light spotting to plates but text crisp and clean; mid-nineteenth century half calf, covers mildly rubbed, joints cracked (but binding entirely sound), else a very good, clean copy. With a personal bookplate on front paste-down. The first of Burnet's series of 'Hints' which covers composition, light and shade, and colour. First published in 1822, the plates contain reproductions of well-known paintings engraved by the author. Scarce
