Original uniform embossed cloth with gilt vignette on the front boards and gilt title on the spines. = Contains interesting contributions, for instance by Forbes on the relations of Natural History to Geology and the Arts (in the first volume); Smyth's on the value of an extended knowledge of mineralogy and processes of mining (ditto); Jukes on the geology of the south Staffordshire coalfield and De la Beche's note on the stigmaria beds of the south Staffordshire coalfield, and two more papers on the geology of Staffordshire (all in the second volume). Old private bookplate of J. R. McClean on the front paste-downs; Spine of the second volume laid down, otherwise very good, clean copies.
