Descripción

[Monte Carlo], Imprimerie de Monaco, 1934. Large 4to (36.0 x 28.2 cm). 471 pp. Eight double-sized plates. Original printed wrappers. = The chief merit of this - late - publication in the series is the large number of photos of the crew and visiting scientists at work on board the ship (e.g. the sorting of dredging material) and terrestrial localities. The photos are dated (mostly from shortly after the turn of the century), and individual people are identified. Other plates show the scientific equipment used on board. In the text the dredgings stations of various campaigns are listed. On the title page there is a reference to neuf cartes (histoire des voyages) which, however, are not present as nearly always because they were not distributed with this volumne but with with much earlier volumes (viz. II, XIII to XVI and XIX-XX; between 1982-1901), as explained in a loose, printed note. Uncut. A very good clean copy; nearly mint condition.
