In 1996, Perkins won the World Press Photo of the Year award for a photograph he took of a young boy peering out the back window of a bus leaving a war-torn area of Chechnya. In 1995, he and 'Post' reporter Leon Dash were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their four-year study on the effects of poverty on three generations of a Washington, D.C., family. In 1994, he received the Newspaper Photographer of the Year award from the National Press Photographers Association for a portfolio that included projects in Russia and a behind-the-scenes look at the New York fashion shows. He has been photographing the New York shows for more than ten years. He lives in Washington, D.C. ROBIN GIVHAN reports on the fashion industry for the 'Washington Post.' Her work has appeared in the 'International Herald Tribune' and as part of the compendium 'No Sweat: Fashion, Free Trade, and the Rights of Garment Workers.' She is a three-time winner of the Atrium Award for fashion reporting. Givhan graduated from Princeton University and has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Michigan.
