Descripción

Folio (194 x 275 mm). 19, (1), 4 pp. Original printed wrappers. A comprehensive geological paper from the 1960 Petroleum Congress, issued by Dr. Soliman Mahmoud Soliman of Ain Shams University in Cairo, who published regularly on topics related to oil prospecting. Discusses (mostly in English but with four pages in Arabic) the relatively new method referred to as geochemical prospecting, which proposes that petroleum reservoirs can be located by a "halo" of hydrocarbons rising through the rock. Per Soliman, this method had been used in Europe and North America but never on the Arabian Peninsula or the wider Arab world; he suggests that it would be a cost-effective and useful approach in the vast oil fields of the Arabian Peninsula. The plates illustrate geological structures, and the anomalies of methane and hydrocarbons predicted over reservoirs. - Front wrapper detached and wanting rear wrapper, otherwise in good condition.
