Roy. 8vo., First Edition, with a portrait frontispiece, an illustration in the text and 9 maps (3 folding); cloth, backstrip lettered in white, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter very lightly frayed at edges. A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON TITLE. Wheatley's war papers were circulated to the Chiefs of Staff, the Joint Planning Staff of the War Cabinet, and King George VI. As a result, he became the only civilian to be commissioned directly into the Joint Planning Staff. Presentation copies from Wheatley are scarce. Enser, p.402.
