8vo., First Edition, with 18 plates on 8; cloth, gilt back, a fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Good, thoughtful (and often entertaining) extended summaries of the 115 officers appointed to the Royal Navy's highest rank in the three hundred-odd years of its existence. Undeniably useful and certainly handy, it would benefit from more and better pictures (particularly of the lesser-known individuals). A similar treatment of British admirals is a greater need.
