8vo., First Edition thus, on laid paper, with frontispiece, small neat signature on front free endpaper; black cloth, upper board and backstrip lettered in gilt, gilt top, uncut, backstrip very lightly faded else a very good, bright, crisp copy. EDITION LIMITED TO 1000 NUMBERED COPIES SIGNED BY THE PUBLISHER. Wilde's controversial essay, attempting to solve the mystery of Shakespeare's Sonnets, was first published in Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine in July 1889 (see Mason p.6; 4).
