Descripción

Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT) / From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - sehr guter Zustand / very good condition - My subject is the profession of ignorance, principally that of Socrates, and my ignorance, like my subject, is in my opinion profound. It is profound on both this and most other subjects. Despite this, or because of this, I am willing to defend here six interrelated opinions as theses (or arses') that bear on this subject and on philosophy itself. Platos Socrates calls philosophy the greatest music,1 but I do not know anyone else who would, except perhaps when music means muse or musing. However, philosophy may be likened to music in that both require or acquire a rhythmic signature and structure of sorts. Each in its own way treads out the measure of its own theses or downbeats: e.g. in philosophy, basic theses or fundamental positions are marked out and laid down as foundational, and then up-beats, i.e. arses or epitheses, additional, augmented or extended positions are raised upon these theses as development or for edification. Each thesis can be arsis to another thesis, and vice versa, and so each form mutually supporting archor underlying principles, beginnings, or original positions. ISBN 9780761813873
