8vo., First Edition; elegantly bound in early twentieth-century full dark green crushed morocco, sides with blind frame border, back with flat bands, second compartment lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, marbled endpapers, backstrip gilt moderately faded (but wholly legible), a bright, clean copy. A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON TITLE. An elegant copy of arguably the author's most famous work, the basis of Carol Reed's feature film (1940) starring Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave.
