Inhalt - "Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934) is one of the most popular painters of modern Japan. Pictures of women by him were extremely popular with young people in the early decdes of the 20th century. As a young boy, he liked to draw pictures and since 1905 when some of his illustrations appeared in a certain magazine, he had drawn a large numbe rf pictures and illustrations. Among his representative works are "Ten Women" (Nos. 87-97) in which he drew women representing various social strata and engaged in different occupatins and "Twelve scenes of Nagasaki" (Nos. 70-82), the same port city later atom-bombed in World War II. Yumeji gave full play to his talent in illustrations for magazines, book cover designs (Nos. 134-155), covers for music scores (Nos. 35-53), wood block prints and kimono patterns. Thus, he became a pinoeer in Japan's commercial art. But Yumeji was lonely throughout his life. After he divorced his wife, Tamaki, he lived with a woman, Hikono, who died of consumption. Another woman, Oyo, with whom he lived in his later years, left him. In 1931, he left Jpaan for the United States and returned hom two years later via Europe. After his return home, he was affected with consumption and died at the age of 49." Special Supplements:(1) A post card addressed to Shusui Kotoku. Kotoku was a socialist, who was involved in the famous frame-up of an attempt on the life of Empoeror Meiji and executed. Yumeji was a friend of his. (2) "Yoimachigusa-Shikishi" (washi paper, both sides, original size) "Yoimachigusa" is the name of a popular song written by Yumeji. (3) "Hojo, a letter of appointment" (washi paper, original size) Picture of a beautiful woman of the type Yumeji liked to draw.
