The volume presents the restoration of Titian's Beauty. The work, which is kept in the Palatine Gallery of Palazzo Pitti, was restored by Patrizia Riitano. The painting, freed from the heavy patina of dark yellow varnishes, has found the purple complexion of the cheeks, the gold of the long necklace around the neck, the glitter of the pearl pendants on the ears, the elegance of the complicated hairstyle, the sumptuous richness of the blue dress, with embroideries, previously invisible glazes and the extraordinary white puffs that come out of the dress.
The portrait of the Woman, painted by the artist in 1536 and belonging to the Duke of Urbino Francesco Maria della Rovere, was inventoried among the Medici collections in Florence in 1694, was then removed from the Napoleonic requisitions and brought to the Louvre in Paris in 1799 and finally returned at the Palatine Gallery after the Congress of Vienna in 1814.
