8vo., First Edition thus, with endpaper maps in blue, some faint offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; original series binding of blue buckram, gilt back, red top, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter lightly browned at extremities. The map of Wessex was drawn by Hardy himself. Macmillan's superior Library Edition, the best uniform edition of the 1950s, is scarce in the dustwrapper.
