8vo., First Edition, with coloured frontispiece, 9 fine coloured plates by Augustus John, Rex Whistler and others, and very numerous photographs, illustrations, maps and diagrams in the text, some light offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; original green cloth, upper board blocked in gilt, gilt back, tiny scuff at upper edge of front board else a near fine copy. A particularly well-illustrated unit history. One coloured plate is by the artist Rex Whistler who was killed in action with the regiment on D-Day.All three battalions served throughout the war. 1 and 2 Bns were in France in 1939; 3 Bn fought in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. 1 and 2 Bns formed part of Guards Armoured Division from Normandy and on through NW Europe to the Rhine.
