Orig. board with original lithographed title mounted, and later half linen over marbled boards. = First and only edition incl. chapters on the history of zoology, questions of species and its significance, reproduction, geographical distribution of animals and extinction. A good copy. Next to the physiologische Briefe (1845/47) his most important general description of zoology. He became a renowned Darwinist.
