Descripción

Jena, Friedrich Fromann [for the Kaiserliche Leopoldinisch-Carolinischen deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher], 1861. 4to (29.9 x 22.7 cm). Title page, 18 pp.; two very large, double-folded lithographed plates. 19th-century pebbled half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt title. = An important, well-illustrated contribution to comparative anatomy of primates by the German anatomist, zoologist, and malacologist Carl Gustav Carus (1789-1869). We offer the complete Volume 28 of the academy's Verhandlungen, or Novorum Actorum. Apart from Carus's contribution, it includes works by Uhde (craniology of Hawaiians), a work on intestinal worms in humans by Weinland, new butterflies (with coloured plates) by Felder, new mammals from Africa, near the Red Sea, by Theodor von Heuglin (with his portrait), and works on palms, mycology, ferns, and solar eclipses. The spelling, Skelet, instead of the now more usual Skelett is correct. Old oval stamp on Latin title page; some light, scattered spotting, but most text leaves, and plates clean.
