Descripción

Einband leicht berieben. - Zwe1ethu Mthethwa's photography wants to be a reflection on the web of histories, styles, prod-ucts and wishes that come across the life of those living on the boundaries of urban culture. His models and characters come mainly from South Africa's Eastern Cape area, formerly know as the Ciskei and the Transkei. All of them are rural immigrants who move out looking for jobs and now live in the informal settlement called Langalabuya, in Paarl, which is about and hour's drive from Cape Town. Moreover, from what Mthethwa is presenting to the viewer, we can say that their ways of living reflect the territorial and social disjunction that characterized the modernization processes in developing economies. As Professor Sami Nair would say, Mthethwa is thoughtfully reconsidering the very concept of "development". ISBN 9788890020223
