"The older, better established galleries, Il Milione, and, above all, Apollinaire and Schwarz, has already been at work in Milan since the sixties, moving along the lines of an historical revision of the pioneering artists of conceptual tendency and proposing new forms of this expression. Some of the better-known exponents of visual poetry were also welcomed to the gallery, including Emilio Isgro' and Ugo Carrega in 1970 and Mirella Bentivoglio in 1971. Compared to Turin and Rome, Milan differed in that it could boast the presence of an active group of visual poetry and the birth of exhibition spaces dedicated to artists who investigated the use of the word in art, albeit using different approaches from the rigorously conceptual art of a Barry, a Kosuth or a Weiner" (Arte in Italia negli anni 70.
