Saint Pétersbourg, Académie Impériale des Sciences de St.-Pétersbourg, 1904. Large 4to (26.2 x 22.2 cm). 84 pp.; 64 text illustrations. Contemporary quarter calf over dark grey marbled boards. Paper label on spine. = A rather rare work (seldom seen bound) on the genitalia of butterflies and their important role in evolution. Written by the Estonian zoologist, entomologist - and in particular lepidopterologist - Wilhelm Petersen (1854-1933) and published in the academy's Mémoires, as Série VIII, vol. XVI(8). Board edges and spine rubbed; stamp on title, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
