Mit Widmung des Autors. - Caunus is situated on the right bank of the ancient river Calbis which now connects the Lake of K�ycegiz with the Mediterranean. About 5 kms. inland from the sea, opposite the modern village of Dalyan on the left bank of the river, 7 kms. west of the main road from Mugla to Fethiye. I think that once all the plains around the acropolis of Caunus were sea and the city had probably two harbours. One of them is the lake now called S�l�kl� G�l. The other is the big harbour now a completely silted plain on the north side of the acropolis.
