Comprehensive work on computing machine components in the 1940s, based on a report to the Office of Naval Research. Profusely illustrated by diagrams and circuit schematics. From the Preface: This volume is primarily a discussion of the mechanical devices and electrical circuits which can be incorporated into computing machines. It is not a detailed comparison of various machines. However, we have included descriptions of a few computers, to provide examples of the integration of techniques and components into complete systems.
