Hafnia [Copenhagen], Proft and Storch, 1796. 8vo (19.6 x 11.8 cm). 175 pp. Contemporary paper-covered boards. Spine with handwritten label. All edges red. = The Danish entomologist Johan Christian Fabricius (1745-1808) was the foremost authority on insects during the last quarter of the 18th century. His rare Entomologia systematica is considered his most important contribution, published after his Genera Insectorum (1776), Species Insectorum (1781), and Mantissa Insectorum (1787), combining all his entomological knowledge, and in fact nearly all that had been published up to 1795. This supplemental alphabetical index was published separately and is often missing. A former owner has added, in an old hand, numerous additions in neat pencil or ink. Provenance: stamp of the famous library of the Nederlandsche Entomologische Vereeniging on title page recto and verso. Spine cover rubbed; binding a bit weak, but overall in a very good condition.
