Paris and Brussels, G. Van Oest, 1926-28. French edition of this classic work on English illumination from the early 10th century to 1461, lavishly produced. It is considered the first serious chronology of illuminated manuscripts in Britain. The text by the scholar Eric Millar (1887-1966), Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum from 1944-47, was translated by M. E. Maitre and Jean Buhot.
