First Edition, WITH EXCELLENT PROVENANCE, A SPEKE FAMILY COPY, INSCRIBED By Benjamin Speke to his brother William Speke. Both were brothers of John Hanning Speke, the famous explorer who accompanied Captain Richard Burton on his search for the source of the Nile. Illustrated with nineteen black and white drawings, and a large fold-out map at the end. 8vo, publisher’s original dark blue cloth lettered and ruled in gilt on the spine, the upper coverwith a large embossed gilt vignette. ix, 342 pp. A bright copy, internally quite clean, the blue cloth with a bit of rubbing as to be expected.
