MANIFESTO Prima edizione inglese in questo formato. Ottimo esemplare, molto fresco e pulito. At first glance, it seems reasonable to assume that the first press release in English [“Futurist Venice”] coincided with first manifesto-leaflet to be issued in English, the “Manifesto of the Futurist Painters”, a classic 290 x 230 mm double-leaf leaflet designed as a close replica of the “Manifeste des peintres futuristes”, with the signatories list including Severini in the last place, preceded by the newcomer Balla. However, I have been unable to find a single mention of this manifesto in the English or US press during the whole of 1910. This means that the conjectural dating of the Manifesto of the Futurist Painters leaflet to 1910 is not supported by any evidence. […] The first coverage of the “Manifesto of the Futurist Painters” I could trace in the English press can be found in “The New York Times” of 20 August 1911 and “The Boston Evening Transcript” on the following day (it appears to have used the New York Times as its source). Both newspapers quoted large parts of the text featured in the Manifesto of the Futurist Painters leaflet, commented on them and mentioned signatories in the final order, but with a misprint of “Cara” instead of “Carrà”. Until more evidence emerges, we must assume that – contrary to all bibliographical entries given to date – the leaflet entitled “Manifesto of the Futurist Painters” was released only in August 1911, more than a year after the original French edition made the rounds» (Coronelli). Coronelli, The Futurist Manifestos of Early 1910 (IYFS 12, 2022, in print); Tonini, I manifesti del futurismo italiano, 9.4
