Descripción
Splendid illustrated and genuine Sessa edition of « the most popular natural history ever written" by Pliny The Elder, here with the commentary of the humanist Barbaro. Two complete parts, collected in a single folio volume, with two elaborate woodcut title pages printed in red and black. Contains charming 32 beautiful woodcut illustrations in the text, as well as 3 small maps and numerous large elegant initials, which made this edition published and printed by the Sessa family one of the most successful of the 16th century.
Description:
Folio (310x220 mm.), 14, 219 (Historia), 72 cc. (Index by humanist Johannes Camers, 1447-1546); browned, few occasional grubby marks, a couple of corners with marginal loss, stained in places, mainly to index; page edges somehow thumbed, block edge worn.
