Oblong folio (34.0 x 25.2 cm), 20 lithographed plates of which one coloured; loose in green portfolio with printed label. = Part of the zoological results of an expedition to the then little explored southeastern coasts of Africa, opposite Madagascar, now known as Moçambique (Mozambique, German: Mosambik). The subtropical fauna has many endemic elements and therefore it does not come as a surprise that this early exploration yielded many new species. The complete zoology deals with mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. This is the atlas of the fish section (text volume not included) with fresh and brackish water fish, including a new shark. Some wear to top of spine; plates in very good condition, bright, clean.
