Paris, Académie des Sciences, 1838. Large 4to (27.5 x 21.7 cm). 12 pp. Near contemporary quarter cloth over dark green boards. Original blind green wrappers bound in. = Offprint of a rare piece of Goetheana, dealing with the zoological and anatomical works of one of the last great polymaths. Written by the French zoologist and founder of the science of ethology, Isidore Geoffroy St. Hilaire (1805-1861), who writes appreciatively about Goethe's scientific works. Although not indicated, this copy is known to be from the library of the malacologist and botanist Christian Horace Bénédict Alfred Moquin-Tandon (1804-1863), professor of botany and director of the Jardin de Plantes in Toulouse. Wide-margined. A very good copy.
