This volume, published in accompaniment to the retrospective exhibition held at GAM - Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea in Turin, traces back over the life and work of Salvatore Scarpitta (New York, 1919-2007), one of the most original protagonists of the twentieth-century art scene, spanning the United States and Italy. The originality of his language, not easily assigned to any particular twentieth-century art current and which had a deep influence on post-war Italian art, is explored in critical essays and in the extensive section Notes toward a biography.
