Cartone editoriale col piatto illustrato in bianco e nero, mirabili sguardie e con 18 grandi raffinate XILOGRAFIE nel testo, in cui spicca incontaminato il corpo nudo della nera protagonista tra falsi grifagni o arrapati cattivi profeti. FARLEIGH (1900-1965), best known as an illustrator, won acclaim for [these] illustrations. which heralded the resurgance of interest in wood-engraved illustration among the commercial book trade". SHAW (Dublino 1856 - Ayot St Lawrence 1950), Premio Nobel per la letteratura 1925, vegetariano e antivivisezionista, critico spietato, e qui si nota, delle religioni istituzionali. Questa specie di novella (seguita dalle 16 pagine di autocommento), scritta durante il suo viaggio in Sudafrica, confronta l'intelligenza franca e diretta della ragazza e delle sue imbarazzanti domande con le tortuosità "metafisiche" dei missionari cristiani.
