Descripción
8vo., Seventeenth Impression, with double-page map; original green cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped dustwrapper. The finest novel of the Royal Navy in WWII and a maritime classic. The story, based upon the author's own experiences, formed the basis of Charles Frend's stirring feature film (1953) starring Jack Hawkins in one of his most memorable roles. So accurate is its depiction of the Battle of the Atlantic that it is one of the very few works of fiction admitted by Law to his standard bibliography The Royal Navy in World War Two. Law, 1865 (recording the first edition).
