About The Book: The "Flora of British India" is a project that provides concise descriptions of flowering plants and ferns in British territories in India, covering regions like Kashmir and Western Tibet. Originally, it was planned to include Afghanistan and Beluchistan, but this idea was abandoned due to the availability of other botanical resources. The work recognizes the immense complexity of British Indian botany, spanning various climates and elevations, making it impossible to document all plant species comprehensively. Much of the flora remains undescribed or inadequately documented. This Flora serves as a handbook and a stepping stone for more extensive future works, with contributions from various botanists. Citations and references are kept succinct, and collections are primarily based on Wallich's for practicality. The geographical regions mentioned align with recognized territorial divisions of India and botanical regions. The compilation consists of seven volumes.
