Descripción

London, The Linnean Society, 1907. Two parts in one. Large 4to (29.2 x 23.0 cm). 121 pp. [numbered 1-56, 111-175]; 15 plates (two being very large, folded maps) [numbered 1-10, 14-18]. 45 text figures [numbered 1-23, 25-46]. Later green buckram with gilt title on the spine. = The introduction part, with many maps, descriptions of all the stations, a photograph of the research vessel, H.M.S. Sealark, of the officers and naturalists on board, of research equipment and activities, and landscapes/habitats, on or near the Seychelles, Maldives, Diego Garcia, etc. It was later followed by many monographs of particular groups of animals, in particular marine invertebrates, all published by the Linnean Society of London. The author, and leader of the expedition, John Stanley Gardiner (1872-1946) was a specialist in corals and coral reefs. The gaps in text, figure, and plate numbering come from being published in two parts, with some unrelated (and here not included) texts in between. This is the complete introduction. Provenance: inscribed in the top margin of the front free endpaper by the leading Conidae specialist of the second half of the 20th, and early years of the 21st century, Alan Jacob Kohn (1931-2022). Here and their some marginal creasing, and two small, marginal repairs; otherwise very good. Surprisingly, not in Nissen, nor in the Cat. BM(NH) Supplement.
