8vo., First Edition, Early Issue, with engraved frontispiece, engraved and printed titles, 38 engraved plates and numerous wood-engraved illustrations in the text, frontispiece, engraved title and some plates mildly dust-soiled; attractively bound in mid-nineteenth century red half calf, sides ruled in blind, marbled boards, back with five flat bands tooled in gilt, second compartment with black leather label ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments ruled in blind, red sprinkled edges, buff endpapers, expertly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, a very good, bright, firm copy. With the nineteenth century trade ticket of Narracott of Torquay on front paste-down. An early issue of the first edition in book form. With mixed points: sub-title on p.1 in rustic; 'Mr. Pitt' for 'Sir Pitt' on p.453; wanting suppressed illustration on p.336.
