8vo., with a coloured frontispiece, 23 fine coloured plates, 151 monochrome plates, 57 illustrations in the text and photographic endpapers; original series binding of publisher's green leather-effect pictorial cloth, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt and black, gilt back, radial corners, one corner lightly bruised else a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper. The second title in Warne's famous series, Step's classic survey was the first to appear (in 1904) in the now familiar 'dumpy' W&W format. The second edition, revised by the Jacksons and with outstanding plates by Fitchew, followed in 1940 and swiftly reissued. Uncommon in this condition. See Marren pp.142-4.
