Maniera nera, 1709, firmata e datata in lastra in basso a sinistra. Autoritratto a stampa di Pieter Schenk, derivato da un ritratto dell’artista dipinto da David Hoyer (1667-1720). Pieter Schenk è stato un incisore e cartografo olandese di origi tedesche, attivo ad Amsterdam e Lipsia. Nacque a Elberfeld, in Germania nel 1660 e si trasferì ad Amsterdam nel 1675. Fu allievo di Gerard Valck, specializzato in mezzatinta. Nel 1686, assieme a Gerard Valck, ricevette un privilegio per la stampa e la vendita delle sue opere. Si dedicò soprattutto alla ritrattistica, eseguì vedute topografiche e rappresentò soggetti storici, di genere, tra cui scene galanti, e biblici, utilizzando la tecnica del mezzotinto fino dal 1695. ' Schenk aprì un negozio a Lipsia nel 1700, vendendo mappe e opere d'arte. Ebbe tre figli che divennero anche incisori. Magnifica prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva, con sottili margini, leggere pieghe di carta, per il resto in ottimo stato di conservazione. Bibliografia Hollstein, Dutch & Flemish, n. 874. Pieter Schenk was a Dutch engraver and cartographer of German origin, active in Amsterdam and Leipzig. He was born in Elberfeld, Germany in 1660 and moved to Amsterdam in 1675. He was a pupil of Gerard Valck, specializing in mezzotint. In 1686, together with Gerard Valck, he received a privilege to print and sell his works. He devoted himself mainly to portraiture, executed topographical views, and depicted historical, genre, including gallant scenes, and biblical subjects, using the mezzotint technique until 1695. ' Schenk opened a store in Leipzig in 1700, selling maps and works of art. He had three sons who also became engravers.
