This book provides a thematic overview of the history of the Van Keulen company. This was located under the name De Gekroonde Lootsman for more than two hundred years in a building on the corner of the Nieuwe Brugsteeg in Amsterdam, directly opposite where the Victoria Hotel is now located. From here, successive generations of this family sold maps, nautical instruments and books, in short, everything "of use to the seafarer". In the nineteenth century the character of the company changed. The emphasis was shifted from production to sales. In addition, the range was expanded with foreign editions.
