Soggetti dalla Galleria di Ulisse

Serie completa di quattro incisioni da soggetti di Francesco Primaticcio. Tre Muse con un putto che suona i piatti; Tre Muse con un putto che suona la lira; Tre Muse con un putto che parla con loro, Apollo e Pan.Tutte e quattro le incisioni sono firmate con il monogramma 'G.MAF.' e recano l’indicazione dell’inventor 'FRAN. BOL. IN.'Secondo Mariette, le incisioni sono basate sui dipinti eseguiti da Primaticcio nella Galleria di Ulisse a Fontainebleau fra il 1541 e il 1547. La galleria fu poi distrutta nel 1738 -39. I soggetti riprodotti dal Ghisi decoravano la volta del quarto comparto, ove circondavano un’immagine centrale raffigurante Venere con le Tre Parche e il segno del toro.Esemplari nella stesura finale, con l'indirizzo di Lafreri abraso.Bellissime prove, impresse su carta vergata coeva con filigrana "aquila in cerchio con corona" (Briquet 207, Lewis 13, databile al 1573-76), con margini o rifilate alla linea marginale, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Signed lower center with monogram: 'G.MAF.', inscribed on the cushion to the right: 'FRAN. BOL. IN.' - Three Muses and a Putto with a Lyre. Signed lower right with monogram: 'G.MAF' and inscribed: 'FRAN. BOL. IN.'- Three Muses and a Gesturing Putto. Signed lower center with monogram: 'G.MAF' and inscribed above: 'FRAN. BOL. IN.' - Apollo, Pan, and a Putto Blowing a Horn. Signed with monogram on the cushion at bottom left: 'G.MAF.' and inscribed on a tablet: 'FRAN./BOL./IN.'According to Mariette, these four prints were based on compositions surrounding a central image of Venus and the three Fates in the vault pf the fourth bay in the Galerie d’Ulysse at Fontainebleau. Examples of the final state, with the Antonio Lafreri' address erased.Magnificient proofs, printed on contemporary laid paper with "eagle in crowned cirlce" watermark (Briquet 207, Lewis 13; Rome 1573-76 circa), with margins or trimmed to the platemark, excellent conditions.
