Veduta paesaggistica del porto dell'isola di Ponza. La scena mostra la geologia locale causata dall'azione vulcanica, in particolare le colate laviche solidificate, osservate dalla feluca di Sir William Hamilton (1731-1803). Il gruppo comprende Hamilton che dirige l'artista e operai con martelli che prelevano campioni di roccia (in basso a sinistra). La tavola è tratta dal libro "Some particulars of the present state of Mount Vesuvius; with the account of a journey into the province of Abruzzo, and a voyage to the Isle of Ponza", di Sir William Hamilton, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.76 (1786), pp. 365-381. La lastra è incisa su disegno di Francesco Progenie. Acquaforte, stampata su carta vergata coeva, buono stato di conservazione. The scene shows local geology caused by volcanic action, notably solidified lava flows, being viewed by the felucca party of Sir William Hamilton (1731-1803). This group includes Hamilton directing the artist and workmen with hammers taking specimens of rock (lower left).
