First Edition thus free endpapers mildly browned; plum diced cloth upper board blocked in blind gilt back backstrip lightly faded (but all gilt wholly legible) case lightly shaken else a very good bright clean copy. Bright copy of an early reissue of Hardy's third novel. The work was never reprinted in its original three-volume form (1873); the first single-volume edition appeared in 1877. SCARCE.
