First Edition, vi,[ii],78pp., with half-title, one folding engraved plate showing the catheter, orig. calf calf, rubbed, re-backed. James Ware (1756ñ1815), surgeon and oculist, studied under Jonathan Wathen and from 1777 to 1791 shared his London practice which specialised in the treatment of diseases of the eye. Ware was the first ìbare oculistî to be elected Fellow of the Royal Society of London, a distinction that greatly contributed to the recognition of ophthalmic surgery as a scientific endeavour.
