Wien, Carl Gerold's Sohn, 1883. 4to (31.2 x 25.0 cm). 41 pp., 11 large, lithographed plates of which eight in fine chromolithography (tissue-guarded). Original quarter cloth over printed boards. Gilt title on spine. = A detailed and superbly illustrated work on Adriatic (Mediterranean) ascidians (Tunicata), by the Austrian industrialist, explorer and painter Richard Freiherr Drasche von Wartinberg (1850-1923). A small label, mouted on the front pastedown, explains a delay in publication, stating that the text was already being printed in 1883, but the plates were not ready until half-January 1884, blaming the lithographers, Werner & Winter. Front board fore edge a bit worn, first tissue guard slightly spotted (first plate much less so), otherwise a very good, clean copy. Rare. Nissen ZBI, 1156.
