Description
Foreword by Peter Conder.
It is a poor biologist who is blind to the aesthetic qualities of his subject matter.
David and Katie Urry are both biologists and photographers who studied marine bird life amongst other things. In the course of this work they found that their appreciation of the beauty of their subject and their ability to record it photographically greatly enhanced its value. They also believe that natural beauty and form are better appreciated if something of the biological needs that have fashioned them are understood.
In this fine collection of photographs they have combined a tribute to the graceful flight of birds with a lucid explanation of the basic principles of bird flight. The photographs make one gasp with admiration and the text and captions add an intellectual dimension to the beauty of the pictures. This is a book to look at and to study over and over again bringing more pleasure on every occasion.
