Paris, Grandidier, [no date, but 1889]. 4to-sized (32.0 x 24.0 cm). Well preserved hand-painted engraving of shells. = A fine plate containing wonderfully exact illustrations and often the first valid introduction of new species of shells from a rich and stunningly diverse fauna. This very large snail, however, was introduced in Madagascar from mainland Africa, and is known as an agricultural pest. This print in very good condition with some soiling. Otherwise clean. No creases, dents or tears present. Responsible for publication were the renowned French malacologists Joseph Charles Hippolyte Crosse (1826-1898) and Paul Henri Fischer (1835-1893). Cat.
