Ilustrated by Rowland Wheelwright with eight colourplates. 8vo, publisher's original dark-green cloth, the upper cover with a large colourplate pastedown, the spine lettered in gilt, Golden Books pictorial endpapers printed in green. 488pp. A nice copy, a bit mellowed by time but solid and clean and still quite attractive, the colourplates are all in fine condition.
Edizione: a handsome king arthur arranged for young readers and nicely illustrated. australian-born british painter rowland wheelwright's talents shine in these eight fine colourplates which harken to mind the pre-raphaelites but with a more modern pastel palette. elected to the royal society of british artists in 1906, other works illustrated by him include lorna doone, the three musketeers, the talisman, and the old curiosity shop.
