Tananarive, Académie Malgache, 1927. 4to (28.5 x 22.5 cm). 80 pp.; 41 plates, of which 40 with fine photographs by the author. Original printed portfolio. = A rare offprint from the academy's Mémoires. An excellent document of the forests of Madagascar from before and during the early days of widespread destruction. The photos show various trees, vegetation, habitats, and landscapes. Jean Henri Humbert (1887-1967) was a French botanist, who edited the journal, Flore de Madagascar et des Comores. Text paper a bit age-toned, plates much better. Portfolio worn at spine, top end taped; otherwise an excellent, clean and unmarked copy. For an unknown reason all the plates are present twice.
