Description
A UNIQUE COPY OF THIS CELEBRATION OF LABOR, WITH EIGHT ILLUSTRATIONS BY THE AUTHOR, BEAUTIFULLY ILLUMINATED BY HAND IN GOUACHE AND METALLIC INKS. 45 pp. Edition limited to 500 numbered copies, of which this is ONE OF 100 COPIES PRINTED ON FINE CREAM WOVE PAPER (number 22, signed by the author/artist and printed for Madame Elisabeth and Monsieur Max Maury). With a signed presentation inscription from the author/artist. The justification mentions that copies for subscribers include an illumination; this copy includes EIGHT FULL-PAGE HORS-TEXTE ILLUMINATED LEAVES on extremely fine, white, thick wove paper, ALL BUT ONE SIGNED IN INK BY SYLVAIRE. 4to. Original wraps, printed in red and black. Uncut. Some light spotting to text pages, but the ILLUMINATIONS ARE ALL FINE AND BRIGHT, WITH THE COLORS EXTREMELY FRESH. According to his obituary in Sud-Ouest (laid in), Jean Sylvaire (1906-1970) was "le premier enlumineur de France."
