First of the Edition, one of only 1500 numbered copies. Illustrated with drawings and paintings by Auguste Rodin, the type is Didot and the paper specially made by the mills of B.F.K. Rives 8vo, the French version in the original blue wrappers with protective glassine as issued. [xvi], [281], [3] pp. Very fine and very clean copy beautifully preserved, near as pristine.

Edizione: rare in such fine condition. baudelaire's most famous collection of poetry, here rendered into english by james laver. baudelaire's poems are important for their symbolism, and for their impact on the modernist movement. the poems deal with themes relating to decadence and eroticism. both baudelaire and his original publisher were prosecuted under the regime of the second empire as an "outrage aux bonnes mœurs", an insult to public decency.
