Description
Paris, Société d'Histoire naturelle de Paris, 1822. 4to (26.5 x 22.0 cm). 23 pp.; one lithographed plate. Original plain green wrappers. = A seldom-seen monograph on fossils with a peculiar smell, like truffles, and which sometimes is called madreporite asbestiforme, tartufoli, or tartuffite xyloïde and mostly found in Italy. Written by the French geologist and palaeontologist Jules Pierre François Stanislaus Desnoyers (1800-1887). This is an offprint from the society's Mémoires (first volume). Some pencil notes in old handwriting in the text, otherwise very good.
